Boy Scouts of America!

By lifting the ban on gay members the Boy Scouts of America have made a move in the right direction. Their continued ban on gay Scout leaders, however, encourages the stigma that gay adults are pedophiles. Nevertheless, members of the gay community should support the Scouts and give the organization at least half the time it takes some gays to acknowledge and accept themselves. Support for the BSA is not a simple matter of advocating ‘gay rights’ or being on the right side of an issue and history. Support for the BSA is a calling that should annunciate the type of leadership the organization professes. This example and leadership is desperately needed to absorb the impact that enclaves of intolerance have on our social welfare and quality of life.

UPDATE: JULY 2015

In lieu of the United States Armed Forces repeal of don’t-ask don’t-tell, if the ‘Boy Scouts’ want to ban gay scout leaders they should consider rebranding themselves and their organization “Boy Scouts”.

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA‘ (BSA) signifies what type of men boys should become in order to underwrite our future and to transcend the race and gender vagaries of our past. Banning gay ‘leaders’, the ‘Boy Scouts’ are implementing a policy that is no more of America’s principles and true promise than were slave holders, segregationist or the U.S. Armed Forces before they allowed women, blacks and gays to serve on the same terms that they fight and die for a private organization’s right to ban gays. While the right to ban gays should be defended on ‘free speech’ grounds, the privilege that is being ‘of America‘ should like respect be expected of noble endeavors.

Update: May 2013

OnMyHonor.Net (renamed :Trail Life USA) is the official coalition of concerned parents, Scout Leaders, Scouting Donors, Eagle Scouts and other BSA members who are united in their support of Scouting’s timeless values and their opposition to open homosexuality in the Scouts.

After Brown v. Bord of Education and federal enforcement of legal efforts to integrate schools, many white parents took their children out of public schools and established private schools like Pillow Academy in Mississippi.  The reason for starting an enterprise is a first step that participants in the endeavor take forward or backwards.  Coming together in opposition to the BSA allowing openly gay members is a rallying point that will be made every single time a group of these persons meet.

It does not matter if the subject of sexuality is ever addressed or raised by ‘On my Honor’ leaders or members.  Their segregation based on opposition to a particular sexual orientation is a burden their members may carry for the rest of their lives. Some of them will cast it off. Some of them will bare it. Some of them will burden others with it. And, given the realities of difference, some of them will suffer the burden instead of being themselves.

Honor is nothing without truth and duty! The truth of the matter is that sexuality is a diverse and complicated aspect of human being and that being human is a duty to “embrace . . . almost every virtue needed in the personal and social life of mankind.”  Pillow Academy and On my Honor are not the Ku Klux Klan or Skin Heads. They are incubators of intolerance and micro-social institutions that act as feeders to varying degrees of prejudice, hate and discrimination.

In the photo above, one of the young members of ‘On my Honor’ is holding a sign that reads The Eyes Of the Lord?  Does it refer to the same eyes that Christians believe welcomed the sight of a woman wanting to touch the hem of “His” garment or maybe they are the eyes of “His” apostles cautioning against fraternization with an ‘unclean woman’? ( Luke 8:40-49) Is ‘On my Honor’ using Christianity to excuse their unchristian attitudes and behaviors?  Maybe they should just call themselves, ‘The Apostles’. (2 Luke 4:16-30)  (Luke 2:7)

“I applaud your many efforts and programs encouraging character development and leadership among American youth. By sponsoring many useful physical, mental, and social activities designed to promote self-responsibility, the Scouts strengthen the cornerstone of individual freedom in our nation. These programs develop the youngster’s confidence in his ability to deal with nature, society, and a challenging world.” Ronald Regan

Words of Wisdom: “IT” is what you are when you are young. Your youth mistakes certainty of the few things that you think you know for knowledge of things that it takes a life time to understand. With time and a few life experiences “IT” becomes the thing you pursue to give your life meaning. Somewhere along the way of having or getting “IT” you ask yourself, ‘Is this “IT”? Panic sets in when you realize that “IT” is your life. Fear and insecurity is that feeling you get when “IT” has not been worth a life time.
