Marriage: Equality and Equity

Christian Jihadist must be made to understand that there can be no freedom of religion unless there is freedom from religion. The threats posed by self-righteous religious zealots to liberty and pursuits of happiness arise from a belief in “God” that is stronger than an experience of “Him”. In other words, their faith is more grounded in the things that they impeach rather than the overall message they feign to preach.

Marriage equality will be a fact of life when and only when state power is no longer vested in religious authorities to legally bind one citizen of the United States to another. Until this fact is realized and determines the lifetime commitments that we make to and with one another, marriage will be an act of state violence otherwise known as state-sponsored terrorism.

The history of marriage – Alex Gendler

A white, puffy dress. Eternal love. A joint tax return. Marriage means something different to everyone and has changed over time and across cultures. Alex Gendler traces the history of getting hitched, providing insights on polygamy, same-sex unions and even marriage between the dead and the living.

Secret NOM Documents Reveal Race-Baiting Strategy

“Last night the Human Rights Campaign released a slew of previously sealed internal documents from the National Organization for Marriage (NOM), the nation’s largest, most visible, and most insidious group of marriage discrimination proponents. The documents, marked “confidential,” were unsealed yesterday afternoon in Maine as part of that state’s ongoing ethics investigation into NOM’s campaign finances. NOM, notoriously dogged in its efforts to fight internal disclosures of any kind, had sued in state court to block the investigation, and now we know why: the documents disclosed yesterday reveal the group’s vile and repugnant strategy of setting minority groups against each other through the shameful exploitation of race.”

Why should a state based on freedom, justice and equality vest its authority in religious persons who believe that “God” is ‘Love’ then empower them to make ‘Love’ (“Him”) conditional as oppose to unconditional?

“This illogical equation between extending a right heretofore enjoyed by one group of people (heterosexual couples) to another group (homosexual couples) and taking away everyone’s rights is very much in line with the accusation of “secular socialism” leveled at liberals in general and President Obama in particular. In fact, the only “right” being taken away is the right of conservative churches—often the most conservative factions within churches—to inject their specific religious beliefs into laws regulating families and sexual conduct.” – Susan Jacoby, The Washington Post

Words of Wisdom: “IT” is what you are when you are young. Your youth mistakes certainty of the few things that you think you know for knowledge of things that it takes a life time to understand. With time and a few life experiences “IT” becomes the thing you pursue to give your life meaning. Somewhere along the way of having or getting “IT” you ask yourself, ‘Is this “IT”? Panic sets in when you realize that “IT” is your life. Fear and insecurity is that feeling you get when “IT” has not been worth a life time.
